First a horse, then a Hippocampus, poor girl can’t catch a break!
Anyhow, the way I’m writting it, all fairies, which includes merrows, are “allergic” to iron in the sense that it’s their only vulnerability/weakness.
Iron will burn a fairy who touches is (like the Changeling in chapter 1) and permanently scar one that’s slashed by it (like the Kelpie in the last chapter). But if they’re hit by a non-iron weapon, like a steel sword, they’ll be hurt but heal rather quickly unless you carry the severed body part too far from the body (even in which case they don’t die from it). Essencially they’d be a real threat to humans if their weakness wasn’t so common.
Oh no! Gwyn turned into a horse again
Seeing how prettyboy reacted to the sword, I have to wonder if he’s a full-blooded merrow or if changelings develop the iron allergies all the same.

He just cannot catch a break. he needs to start wearing a protective amulet or something.
A chainmail would certainly help! Too bad him and Gwyn are poor…
